Effects of Pressure on Homogeneous Nucleation and Growth during Isothermal Solidification in Pure Al: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

Effects of different pressures on the isothermal-solidification process pure Al were studied by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation using embedded-atom method (EAM). was first subjected to a rapid-cooling process, and then it annealed under conditions. Mean first-passage times (MFPT) method, Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) law, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis used qualify solidification- kinetic processing. Nucleation rate, critical-nucleus size, Avrami exponent, growth crystallite size calculated. Results show that nucleation rate increases as pressure increases. The change critical-nucleation is not obvious With increasing, exponent decreases, indicative decreased grain-growth rate. It also found with indicating increased has an effect modes during solidification, which changes from three-dimensional one-dimensional growth. XRD shows decreases.
